These selected works by Corey Allen Davis and Ryan Kerr span the years 2019 (the last time the artists saw one another) to the present; once a departure, now a greeting. Davis mostly fills 2021, while Kerr encircles. For each artist, painting acts as a form of memory-mining, record keeping, and wishmaking.
Together, the works create an oscillation between abstraction and figuration, each happily bearing the weight of the other; even trading hats. The act of painting functions for both artists as a mnemonic antenna. In this conversation, painted worlds grant access to interiority where the present moment simultaneously smacks of the past and strives to learn something new.
